The Canadian club Toronto FC officially announced on Monday, September 8, 2025, the loan of South African forward Cassius Mailula to KV Kortrijk, a team competing in the Belgian second division, the Challenger Pro League. This loan runs until June 30, 2026, and includes a purchase option allowing the Belgian club to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
At 24 years old, Mailula is returning to Europe after a successful loan spell with Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco during the 2024-2025 season, where he scored 6 goals and provided 7 assists in 36 matches across all competitions. Before that, the Limpopo native began his professional career at Mamelodi Sundowns FC, scoring 16 goals in 32 matches, confirming his offensive potential.
Since joining Toronto FC in July 2023, the player has only played eight matches, scoring two goals and providing one assist. The Canadian club seems to want to offer him more playing time and a new challenge to reignite his development in Belgium. KV Kortrijk, currently undefeated leader in their division, could be the ideal environment to fully exploit his qualities.
On the international stage, Cassius Mailula has already been capped twice for the South African national team, reflecting growing recognition at the continental level. This new loan to KV Kortrijk therefore represents a key step in his career that could open new prospects both at club level and with the Bafana Bafana.
