The 2025-2026 season of the Algerian Ligue 1 Mobilis has kicked off amid enthusiasm, marked by the arrival of a new Algerian player in the professional league. This new edition officially starts on August 21, 2025, with the goal of confirming the professionalism of Algerian football notably through the widespread introduction of VAR technology, which will be used across all 240 matches, ensuring greater transparency and improved refereeing quality.
This season welcomes two newly promoted clubs, MB Rouissat and ES Ben Aknoun, the latter having made a rapid return to the top flight after immediate relegation last season. These clubs embody hopes for a diverse and ambitious Ligue 1, aiming not to be limited to traditional giants like MC Alger, CR Belouizdad, or JS Kabylie. ES Ben Aknoun particularly relies on the experience of its coach Mounir Zeghdoud to establish itself sustainably among the best.
The season’s schedule promises exciting spectacles with passionate matchups from the opening day, although some games, especially those involving major teams such as JS Kabylie, USM Alger, or MC Alger, have been postponed due to certain players’ participation in the African Nations Championship for local players. The reigning champions MC Alger will face a challenging start to the season with several derbies to play right away, notably against CR Belouizdad and the newly promoted ES Ben Aknoun.
This new season is also an opportunity for the Professional Football League to enforce strict rules regarding infrastructure, requiring stadiums to be approved by both the FAF and CAF, as well as solid financial resources for international travel. This rigor aims to strengthen the championship’s stature and prepare Algerian clubs for continental competitions, a challenge that both veterans and newcomers to Ligue 1 will need to meet.
