Christopher Wooh leaves Stade Rennais to take on a new challenge at Spartak Moscow

At the beginning of September, Stade Rennais officially announced the departure of Christopher Wooh, the Cameroonian international central defender, who has committed to Spartak Moscow for four seasons. After three years at Rennes, where he played 60 matches wearing the Red and Black jersey, Wooh leaves Brittany to discover the Russian championship, a market still open after the close of the Ligue 1 transfer window.

Arriving at Rennes in August 2022 from RC Lens, the 23-year-old player did not always convince with his consistency despite his physical presence (1.91 m, 92 kg). While coach Habib Beye sometimes gave him playing time this season, his intermittent performance and some defensive errors motivated his departure. Rennes concludes its 27th departure of the summer in a very eventful transfer window, marked by many sales and the expressed ambition to return to European competitions.

Wooh’s transfer, estimated around 6 million euros by Transfermarkt, is a permanent deal made one year before the end of his Rennes contract. Spartak Moscow confirmed the arrival of their new central defender on their social media platforms. Christopher Wooh signed a contract until 2029, linking his future with the Russian club for four additional seasons.

International with Cameroon since 2022, Christopher Wooh will now try to establish himself in Russia and continue his development. This departure confirms Stade Rennais’ dynamic activity in this summer transfer window, with significant player turnover and an important task for coach Habib Beye to build a competitive and consistent team in Ligue 1.
