Panathinaikos has identified Mostafa Mohamed, Egyptian striker of FC Nantes, as its priority to replace Fotis Ioannidis, who recently transferred to Sporting Portugal. According to multiple sources including L’Équipe and Sky Sport, the Greek club is in advanced talks to recruit the 27-year-old player, who is under contract with Nantes until 2027. This interest is partly due to the presence of Mohamed’s former Nantes teammates Pedro Chirivella and Alban Lafont at Panathinaikos, which could ease his integration.
So far, official contact between Panathinaikos and Nantes has not been confirmed, but the French club has clearly set a transfer fee, unwilling to release the Egyptian international for less than 10 million euros. Mohamed joined Nantes in 2022 from Galatasaray and has scored 25 goals in 114 appearances across all competitions with the Canaries, remaining an important squad member despite a slow start to the Ligue 1 season.
The player’s profile has also attracted interest from other clubs, notably Nice in France and NEOM FC in Saudi Arabia—though the latter move fell through due to disagreements over the transfer fee. Additionally, Egyptian clubs such as Al Ahly, Pyramids FC, and Zamalek have expressed interest, underscoring Mohamed’s valued status in multiple markets.
Remaining open to all opportunities, Mostafa Mohamed might soon move to Greece, while FC Nantes appears ready to negotiate but insists on their valuation. The progression of this transfer will be closely watched, especially as Panathinaikos seeks a forward capable of revitalizing their offensive play in the Greek league following the departure of their star striker.
