Following Bryan Mbeumo’s departure, Brentford may lose another key attacking player this summer with Yoane Wissa highly sought after in the Premier League.
Yoane Wissa, the 27-year-old Congolese international striker, has made clear his wish to leave Brentford this summer in search of a new challenge, notably to play Champions League football. Having left his club’s preseason training camp, he now draws interest from several English clubs, including Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle has already made a first bid of £25 million, which Brentford quickly rejected, demanding a significantly higher price estimated between €30–40 million. The Bees, who just sold Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United for up to £71 million, seem determined not to undersell their other star striker, who is under contract until 2026 with an option for an additional year.
Tottenham is also monitoring the situation, though their interest remains less assertive. Their new manager Thomas Frank, former Brentford coach, has a professional connection to Wissa. The striker might prefer Tottenham if multiple offers appear, but Newcastle seems to be the club he has most expressed a desire to join, attracted by their project and Champions League prospects. Negotiations are ongoing between Newcastle and Brentford, with hope of an improved offer from Newcastle around £30 million plus add-ons to meet Brentford’s demands. Brentford is cautious about weakening a squad already affected by multiple key departures this summer.
