Kenya halts Angola: Qualification path turns difficult!

Angola was held to a 1-1 draw by Kenya in the second round of African Nations Championship Group A, complicating their chances of advancing in the tournament. The match began with promise for Angola, as Jó Paciência scored in the 7th minute after a swift move on the right wing, providing an early lead.

Kenya quickly responded; a VAR-reviewed handball awarded the Harambee Stars a penalty, calmly converted by Austin Odhiambo in the 12th minute to level the score. The dynamics shifted significantly when Kenya was reduced to ten men in the 21st minute following Nabwire’s red card, forcing them into a defensive stance for the remainder of the match.

Despite Angola’s dominance in possession, their forwards struggled to penetrate a resilient Kenyan defence marshalled by goalkeeper Byrne Omondi. Angola almost clinched victory in stoppage time, but a late goal was ruled out for offside after another VAR review. The draw leaves Angola with a solitary point and facing a must-win situation against DR Congo to keep qualification hopes alive.

For Angola, this result is a setback, with their path to the knockout stage now fraught with uncertainty. Kenyan resilience shone, demonstrating character and tactical discipline that ultimately frustrated their Angolan opponents.
