Vincenzo Italiano, the Beşiktaş coach, is said to have made André-Frank Zambo Anguissa his number one priority for the January transfer window, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. The Cameroonian midfielder’s Napoli contract runs until June 2027, and talks over an extension have stalled.
After a patchy run, Beşiktaş are reportedly looking for a midfield reinforcement. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, relayed by Football Italia, Vincenzo Italiano has made André-Frank Zambo Anguissa his number one priority for the winter transfer window. For now, it is only a rumour.
In Naples, the file is not moving. Anguissa’s contract expires in June 2027 and extension talks have stalled. That is fuelling interest, with Inter and Atalanta also linked to the Cameroonian this season.
A coach in search of solutions
Appointed to the Beşiktaş bench in June after spells at Bologna and Fiorentina, Vincenzo Italiano is having to contend with inconsistent results. His team have won only one of their last five matches: two defeats, against Celtic in Europe and then Trabzonspor in the Süper Lig, and a 2-2 draw with Kasımpaşa. Before their game against Gençlerbirliği, the club sat fifth in the Turkish league, nine points behind leaders Galatasaray.
Against that backdrop, the Italian coach is said to see Anguissa’s profile as a reinforcement for his midfield. The Cameroonian’s name had already been circulating around Inter and Atalanta this season.
Naples facing a thorny choice
The situation is becoming delicate. The player turns 31 this month, and his contract with the Italian club runs out in June 2027. While extension talks have stalled, Napoli’s poor form has weakened their position at the negotiating table, according to Football Italia.
The Naples club have already considered a January sale, to avoid losing their midfielder for free the following summer. No decision has been announced, and Beşiktaş’s interest remains, for now, a rumour reported by the Italian specialist press.
A file to watch
The next transfer window opens in January 2027, with Napoli set to decide on a possible departure for their Cameroonian international.
Until then, Beşiktaş will also need to turn things around in the Süper Lig, where the club were nine points adrift of Galatasaray before their game against Gençlerbirliği.
