Ruled out of Saturday 7 November’s 2-1 win over Elversberg after picking up an injury in the Champions League, striker Serhou Guirassy is at the centre of a standoff between Borussia Dortmund, who want to keep him in Germany, and the Guinean football federation.
Serhou Guirassy did not feature in Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 Bundesliga win over Elversberg on Saturday 7 November. The Guinean striker had picked up an injury in midweek, in the Champions League match against Real Betis (2-1), Goal.com reports. Nmecha was among those who helped the BVB to victory that day.
The issue goes beyond the pitch. The November international break is approaching, and the player’s involvement in the Guinean national team camp is the subject of talks. Dortmund want to keep him in Germany, and a decision is still to be made.
“Constructive talks” under way
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Ole Book said the club was “in constructive talks” with the Guinean football federation over a possible trip for their striker. A cautious formula that settles nothing at this stage.
Asked by DAZN, in comments relayed by Goal.com, Ole Book set out the club’s medical position: “From our point of view, it makes no medical sense.” He did, however, acknowledge the need for dialogue: “But, fundamentally, you have to be in dialogue with the association.”
Dortmund therefore want to keep Guirassy in Germany so he can recover under the supervision of their doctors. The club hope to have their striker back after the international break.
A hoped-for return against Mönchengladbach
The target date for the BVB is clear: the Bundesliga trip to Mönchengladbach on 21 November 2026. Dortmund would ideally like to have their striker available for that game. It is a hope, not a certainty, and the Guinea situation could change the schedule.
The November international break falls between the two matches. If Guirassy joins up with Guinea, his medical preparation in Germany could be interrupted, which the club are trying to avoid. As of Goal.com’s publication, no decision had been taken on his participation.
The BVB, winners over Elversberg, will have to deal with this uncertainty. The reports do not specify the nature or the length of the injury sustained against Real Betis. The information rests on a single outlet, Goal.com, which relays Ole Book’s comments to DAZN.
The next marker will be the decision on Guirassy’s participation in the Guinean camp during the break, then the match at Mönchengladbach on 21 November.
