AS Monaco: Salisu again out of the squad for Le Mans, a Filipe Luis choice

Mohammed Salisu is not in AS Monaco’s 21-man squad for Sunday’s Ligue 1 trip to Le Mans. The Ghanaian centre-back is left out by coach Filipe Luis’s choice, not through injury.

AS Monaco travel to Le Mans on Sunday 8 November (17:15) for matchday 10 of Ligue 1, and will have to do so without Mohammed Salisu. The Ghanaian centre-back is not in the 21-man squad selected by Filipe Luis, L’Équipe reports, information confirmed by MadeInFoot. Mika Biereth is also absent from that list.

This is not an injury: for both players, the absence is down to a choice by the coach, as was the case the previous weekend, according to both outlets. In the Monaco squad, only the injuries to Ansu Fati, affected by a hamstring problem, and Stanis Idumbo, troubled by a groin issue, are reported.

A reshaped defence in the Sarthe

The Monaco squad includes three goalkeepers: Hradecky, Köhn and Stawiecki. Behind them, Filipe Luis can call on Dier, Mawissa, Teze and Vanderson to make up his defensive line, according to the list unveiled by MadeInFoot.

Salisu’s absence is part of a pattern: the Ghanaian had already missed the previous matchday squad, again through a choice by the coach. At this stage, however, there is nothing to suggest a definitive exile.

Four games without a win in Ligue 1

The trip to the Sarthe comes at a delicate time for ASM in the league: the club have gone four matches without a win in Ligue 1, according to L’Équipe.

On the European stage, the picture is different: Monaco have just racked up a third successive European win, against Nordsjaelland (2-0). Before the trip, Filipe Luis said, quoted by L’Équipe: “The level we show tomorrow will depend on our ability to be better with the ball.”

Le Mans, the next step

The fixture is set for Sunday 8 November at 17:15, against Le Mans FC, for matchday 10 of Ligue 1. Filipe Luis will have to make do without Salisu and Biereth, both absent from the 21-man squad.

For the Ghanaian centre-back, no information at this stage allows a return to the squad to be anticipated for the coming fixtures.
