Senegal: Pathe Mboup (Brest) called up to the senior team for the first time!

Stade Brestois striker Pathe Mboup, 23, appears in a Senegal squad for the first time. Head coach Patrick Vieira has selected him for the double header against Sudan, according to the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).

The call-up comes as Mboup, who joined Brest on 31 August 2025, has made 9 Ligue 1 appearances and scored 2 goals this season, according to DSPORTS. He is part of the 25-man list Vieira has picked for the two matches against Sudan, reports APS, cited by nbhcyy.com. It is his first call-up to the senior national team.

Mboup did not wait until this November to wear his country’s shirt, though: he has already represented Senegal at U23 level. His path went through Pau, in Ligue 2, before Brest.

Nine goals with Pau, two with Brest

Mboup’s numbers this season remain modest: 9 Ligue 1 appearances and 2 goals, according to DSPORTS. His previous campaign is more convincing. In a Pau shirt in Ligue 2 in 2024-2025, he scored 9 goals and provided 3 assists in 32 matches, according to APS.

He joined Brest on 31 August 2025 and signed a five-year contract there, again according to APS. A long-term commitment that reflects a striker’s arrival at a new club.

On social media, Mboup reacted: “It’s a childhood dream come true”, a line relayed by APS and DSPORTS.

Vieira banks on form and fresh faces

The head coach explains it: his 25-man list takes form and club performances into account, and he wants to see new faces, according to APS. Mboup’s call-up fits that logic.

Other players are discovering the senior squad: Pape Demba Diop (RC Strasbourg), Paul Mendy and Clayton Diandy are also called up for the first time, APS specifies.

One unknown remains: Mboup’s status in the group. Whether he starts or not, whether he wins his first cap or not, the decision rests with Vieira’s choices, according to APS. The call-up alone therefore says nothing about his playing time.

Two meetings with Sudan

The schedule centres on a double header against Sudan in the CAN 2027 qualifiers: Senegal – Sudan on 12 November, then Sudan – Senegal on 16 November, according to APS. The two matches are four days apart.

For Mboup, the fixture comes barely more than two months after his arrival at Brest. APS offers no guarantee about his playing time.
