Madagascar U23: Mankour banks on nine expatriates against South Africa!

According to Newsmada, Barea U23 coach Boualem Mankour has named 23 players, including nine expatriates, for the double-header against South Africa. Christopher Cladec-Laguesse, goalkeeper at Estac Troyes, is in the squad.

The Barea U23 have their list. Newsmada reports a squad of 23 players for the second round of qualifying for the 2027 U23 AFCON, against South Africa, with fourteen home-based and nine expatriate players. The website 2424.mg puts the number at 22 players; the file does not allow a decision between the two counts.

The two legs will be played in Pretoria, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium: the first leg on 14 November, the return on 17 November. A round trip condensed into four days, away from home, which opens Madagascar’s second round.

Cladec-Laguesse in goal

In goal, Mankour has selected Christopher Cladec-Laguesse, under contract with Estac Troyes. The goalkeeper is backed up by Moro Jhonito, of Babangy FC, according to Newsmada.

The defence includes two expatriates: Lucas Rakotozafy, a defender at Pau FC, and Larry Randrianasolo, a defender at Versailles FC. They line up alongside stalwarts of the Malagasy championship, Newsmada specifies.

Guerin Miranto up front

In midfield, Grégoire Noah (Voltigeurs Châteaubriant) and Moasary Morgan (Colmar SR) bring the European touch, while Navalona Ramahazomanana (Rimal Al-Sahra, Dubai) provides the opening towards the Gulf, Newsmada details.

Up front, Guerin Miranto (KRC Mechelen) and Danieldo Raharison (Viseu FC) are expected for their volume and finishing. The sources give no information on the recent performances of these players; the statistics remain to be confirmed on the pitch.

A ticket validated by forfeit

Madagascar did not earn this second round on the pitch. In the first round, the Barea were due to face the Comoros, but the withdrawal of the Coelacanths U23 allowed them to qualify directly, 2424.mg recalls.

Preparation has been underway for a month and a half, notably with players from the national championship, according to the same media. The schedule is set: Madagascar U23 v South Africa U23 on 14 November, then South Africa U23 v Madagascar U23 on 17 November, in Pretoria.
