Head coach Hossam Hassan has left Omar Marmoush out of Egypt’s trip to Cape Verde on Friday. The Tottenham striker, still searching for his bearings with the Spurs, could return against Botswana in Cairo.
Omar Marmoush will not be heading to Cape Verde. According to Hessenschau, Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has rested him, along with two other players, from the long trip to the archipelago, for a match with nothing riding on it that is being played on an artificial pitch. Egypt have already qualified for AFCON 2027.
The Tottenham striker should, however, rejoin the Egypt squad for the home game against Botswana in Cairo the following Tuesday, according to the same source. A return that remains to be confirmed, for a player still searching for his best form with the Spurs, as Foot-Africa noted.
An official rest for Cape Verde
The decision is official: Marmoush is not among the Egyptians who will face Cape Verde on 13 November 2026. Hossam Hassan left him out, along with two other players, of a match with nothing riding on it played on an artificial pitch.
For Marmoush, this rest does not mean a departure from the squad: his return for Egypt – Botswana on 17 November 2026 is likely according to Hessenschau, though not yet confirmed.
At Tottenham, a difficult adaptation
Arrived from Manchester City on loan with an obligation to buy for £60 million, Marmoush is struggling to establish himself at Tottenham, notes Foot-Africa. That assessment does not rule out positive signs: the Egyptian scored in the 3-1 win over Coventry and delivered an encouraging performance against Crystal Palace (2-0).
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi is still looking for the best position to exploit his striker’s qualities, in a team that lacks cutting edge in attack, according to Foot-Africa.
A fixture list to kickstart the season
The collective picture, though, has brightened considerably. According to TNT Sports, Tottenham have just put together three wins in a row, against Coventry, Chelsea and Crystal Palace, after a poor start to the season.
The Spurs also have, according to Opta, the easiest Premier League fixture list over their next five matches. The London club travel to Leeds this weekend.
