Starting and captaining the side, Mohamed Salah failed to score in Trabzonspor’s 1-0 defeat at Freiburg in the Conference League. Lukas Kübler’s 14th-minute goal ends Salah’s two-match scoring streak.
Mohamed Salah could not extend his run. In his third Conference League match for Trabzonspor, the Egyptian forward drew a blank, and his side went down 1-0 on the pitch at Freiburg, according to Voice of Emirates. Yet he had scored in each of his first two appearances in the competition, against KuPS and then Hearts, as Foot Africa had noted before the game.
The captain played the full 90 minutes, named in the starting line-up by his club, which had to do without Dju and Aral, both absent. A start that was expected given his form: over his last 12 competitive matches, Salah has scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists, according to Foot Africa.
An unfortunate rebound and a lead held
The only goal of the game came as early as the 14th minute, scored by Lukas Kübler, the SC Freiburg defender, after a rebound off Trabzonspor goalkeeper André Onana, Voice of Emirates reports. Trabzonspor then failed to come back, despite their Egyptian forward staying on until the final whistle.
The goalkeeper was therefore beaten for the opening goal, and his side could not find a way through against the German team. Salah’s run thus ends at two goals in two matches.
A run built at home
The pre-match figures nonetheless underlined the Egyptian international’s momentum. According to Foot Africa, eight of his last ten goals had been scored at home; this match was played away.
Salah’s Conference League tally remains stuck at two goals, against KuPS and Hearts. His overall output is still that of a decisive player: ten goals and five assists in his last twelve competitive outings, according to the same source. The defeat in Germany nonetheless leaves Trabzonspor without points in the league phase.
No change in the table for Trabzonspor
In the league phase standings, Trabzonspor stay on 6 points and sit in 8th place, according to Voice of Emirates. Freiburg, for their part, move up to 11th place with 6 points, level with their opponents of the evening but behind them in the table.
The Turkish club must now turn back to the league: Alanyaspor – Trabzonspor is scheduled for Sunday, for matchday 11 of the Süper Lig, again according to Voice of Emirates. Salah was unable to score in his third European match.
