Le Havre AC: Josh Maja, 4 goals and the only bright spot at a bottom-of-the-table club

With 4 goals in 9 matchdays, Josh Maja is one of Ligue 1’s top scorers, but Le Havre AC, bottom with 2 points, are in deep crisis after the sacking of Didier Digard.

Despite a disastrous sporting situation, Nigerian international striker Josh Maja keeps finding the back of the net. His 4 goals in nine Ligue 1 matchdays place him among the league’s top scorers, according to official Ligue1.com statistics.

Le Havre AC, meanwhile, are bottom of Ligue 1 with just two points after nine matchdays. The Normandy club are coming off a heavy 5-1 defeat to PSG at the Stade Océane on 30 October. That evening, Maja scored Le Havre’s only goal, in the 18th minute.

A striker head and shoulders above the rest

With his 4 goals, Josh Maja is among the leading pack of Ligue 1 scorers, level with Boulaye Dia (Rennes), Gessime Yassine (Strasbourg) and Kamory Doumbia (Brest), according to Ligue1.com. In a team that has taken only 2 points from 9 matches, that tally has a special flavour: it makes the Nigerian striker one of the few reasons for satisfaction at a club in trouble.

A club on the brink of implosion

Didier Digard has been sacked from his position as head coach. According to Le Havre News, president Jean-Michel Roussier and sporting director Demba Ba have also resigned, two departures that hit the club’s leadership at a time when the team sits bottom of the table.

Against that backdrop, Vikash Dhorasoo, the former France international who came through the ranks at Harfleur and is a former player of the club, has officially applied to replace Didier Digard. “I think the club needs someone from the house, and I’m someone from the house,” he told Le Havre News.

What now?

The appointment of Le Havre AC’s new head coach, to replace Didier Digard, is still to come. The club must turn around a team that has taken only two points in nine matchdays, while coping with the departure of its president and sporting director.

In the meantime, Josh Maja continues his attacking output with 4 goals, level with Boulaye Dia, Gessime Yassine and Kamory Doumbia in the Ligue 1 scoring charts.
