David Pagou, head coach of the Indomitable Lions, does not feature in the top 10 of the continent’s best coaches unveiled by CAF, according to Actu Cameroun. An absence that comes as the technician rebuilds the national team with a rejuvenated squad.
The Indomitable Lions bench is not on the list. CAF has revealed its top 10 of the continent’s best coaches, and David Pagou, the man in charge of the Cameroon bench, does not appear in it, according to Actu Cameroun. An absence that comes just as the technician continues the reconstruction of the national team.
Appointed on 1 December 2025 to succeed Marc Brys, Pagou has embarked on a deep overhaul. He has bet on a rejuvenated squad, sidelining several senior figures, including André Onana and Vincent Aboubakar. The report, however, does not link these choices to his absence from the ranking.
A CAN record still to be placed
At the CAN in Morocco, Cameroon totalled three wins, one draw and one defeat, with seven goals scored and four conceded, according to Actu Cameroun. The run ended in the quarter-finals against the host country, Morocco, with a 2-0 defeat.
These figures are the only elements of assessment put forward in the report to judge the coach’s first months. CAF’s ranking, for its part, does not include his name.
The names retained by CAF
Among the coaches cited, the list notably includes Walid Regragui (Morocco), Pape Thiaw (Senegal), Bubista, Lamine N’Diaye and Mohamed Ouahbi (Cabo Verde), as well as Miguel Cardoso, listed as coach of Sundowns and USM Alger, according to The Nation.
This source, cited in the report, however refers to an article devoted to the CAF Awards nominations. The exact composition of the top 10 of coaches therefore remains to be confirmed, and Pagou’s absence should be read with caution.
A rebuild to be confirmed
The sidelining of Onana and Aboubakar, decided by the coach, is part of the renewal of the squad. The sources consulted do not establish the reasons for Pagou’s absence from the continental ranking.
The technician must now confirm his first results and continue the reconstruction of the Indomitable Lions.
