Three goals in Ligue 1, one assist in the Europa League: Himad Abdelli has been voted OM’s player of the month for October by Marseille supporters, on the eve of the trip to Leverkusen.
Himad Abdelli has been voted Olympique de Marseille’s player of the month for October by the club’s supporters, reports Tellement Foot. The Algerian attacking midfielder succeeds his compatriot Amine Gouiri, who was rewarded in September.
The vote rewards a full month: three goals in Ligue 1, against Troyes (0-2), Angers (2-5) and Le Havre (4-3), plus an assist in the Europa League against Besiktas, according to OneFootball/CoeurMarseillais.
A return that speaks for itself
The October numbers sum up Abdelli’s rise within the Marseille squad. Three league goals in a single month, across three different matches, and a European assist: the output of a regularly starting player, not a substitute benefiting from absences.
Deployed as an attacking midfielder by coach Bruno Genesio since the match against Angers, the former Angers player, who arrived at OM in February 2026, has become the outfield player most used by the Marseille manager, according to OneFootball/CoeurMarseillais.
Behind this revival lies unseen work documented by the same source: Abdelli lost 8 kg during the summer break to get back to his ideal weight and form.
Rongoni: “gaining consistency”
The upturn does not erase everything. Paulo Rongoni, former fitness coach of the Algerian national team, offers a more nuanced view in Dzair Tube. “He is a player with great potential, but he has not yet shown all his qualities. At OM, he must take a new step by gaining consistency and continuity in his performances,” he believes.
The same observer points to a physical limitation: “He has above-average physical strength, but he lacks endurance.” This is the view of a former member of the Algerian national team’s staff, not an official assessment, but a light on what Abdelli still needs to correct to establish himself long term.
Leverkusen, then what follows
The next fixture is known: OM travel to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday 5 November at 21:00, for matchday 4 of the Europa League. Abdelli will be available for this match, unlike Emerson and Amine Harit, specifies Tellement Foot.
A European appointment that comes at the best possible time for the attacking midfielder, on the eve of this trip and after being acclaimed by the Marseille crowd. Staying at this level in Germany would be the best response to the doubts raised about his consistency.
Having arrived at OM in February 2026 from Angers, Abdelli was chosen by the supporters even before playing this Europa League match, after the vote in favour of Amine Gouiri in September.
