Four days before the match, USM Alger are continuing their preparations in Pretoria. The Rouge et Noir take on Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday 8 November in the CAF Super Cup, according to La Gazette du Fennec and Algerie360. The Algerian club are coming off a stellar year on the continental stage, against an opponent who know finals well.
On the ground, the group led by coach Lamine N’Diaye is described as focused and determined to land another continental title, La Gazette du Fennec reports. The outlet names striker Ahmed Khaldi, without giving him any particular role in these preparations.
USMA carry on their continental run
USM Alger’s standing in this duel stems from their previous season. The Algiers side qualified for the Super Cup by winning the Confederation Cup against Zamalek after an endless penalty shootout, before lifting the Algerian Cup, Algerie360 recalls.
Off the pitch, USMA and CR Belouizdad are among the clubs nominated for African club of the year, according to Algerie360 and La Presse de Tunisie.
Cardoso, the face of the South African bench
On the other side, Mamelodi Sundowns are led by Miguel Cardoso, a coach well versed in continental finals. He reached his third consecutive CAF Champions League final: lost in 2024 with Espérance, lost in 2025 with Sundowns, won in 2026 with Sundowns, according to All Football.
The South African backdrop remains paradoxical. Sundowns were knocked out in the second preliminary round of the Champions League by Wiliete SC and will not be able to defend their title, All Football reports. A setback that contrasts with their 2026 continental triumph.
