Al Ahly Tripoli: Fiston Mayele scores in 8-0 win but misses out on CAF top ten

DR Congo international striker Fiston Mayele scored in Al Ahly Tripoli’s 8-0 win over Al Khums in the Libyan Premier League. The outgoing CAF Interclub Player of the Year is not among the ten nominees for 2026.

Al Ahly Tripoli showed no mercy. On Monday 2 November, the Tripoli club thrashed Al Khums 8-0 in the Libyan Premier League, reports Footafrica.net. Fiston Mayele, the DR Congo international striker, scored the third goal of the evening in the 25th minute, converting a cross from his teammate Muaid Ellafi.

The score was already emphatic before the break, reached at 4-0. The second half saw the club add four more goals, without their scorers being specified. Mayele, for his part, got his goal under coach Hossam El Badry.

Four goals before half-time

The match turned very early. His teammate Muaid Ellafi opened the scoring as early as the 7th minute, then Hamdou El Houni doubled the lead in the 21st. Four minutes later, Mayele made the most of Ellafi’s work to make it 3-0.

Mohammed Khalil added a fourth goal in the 37th minute, before the two teams went back to the dressing rooms. After the break, Al Ahly Tripoli picked up where they left off, with four more goals according to Footafrica.net, without the names of the scorers being specified.

The CAF trophy slips away

On an individual level, the news is less favourable. Mayele, crowned CAF Interclub Player of the Year at the previous edition, will not be able to defend his title. According to AfricaSoccer, he is not among the ten nominees for the 2026 edition, a list unveiled by CAF.

The outgoing winner is therefore out of the running. Neither the reasons for this absence nor any possible link to his performances in Libya have been established.

The CAF Awards 2026 ceremony is scheduled for 7 December in Lagos. Mayele is not among the contenders there, as African football prepares to name its new best interclub player.

What next for the club

The Tripoli club, managed by coach Hossam El Badry, relies on a firing attacking unit, in which Mayele and Ellafi stood out on Monday.

Al Ahly Tripoli will return to Libyan Premier League action in their upcoming matches. Mayele, the DR Congo international striker, also represents DR Congo at national team level.
