Eintracht Frankfurt defender Lilian Brassier has been called up for the first time by Togo, his mother’s country, by head coach Patrice Neveu for the double header against Algeria.
The news was revealed by Sport.fr: Lilian Brassier appears for the first time among the twenty-six players selected by Patrice Neveu. The Togo head coach finalised his list on Tuesday, ahead of the double header against Algeria in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
Born in Argenteuil, this 27-year-old left-footer wore the colours of the France U18, U19 and U20 teams but was never called up to the senior side. Togo is his mother’s country. His name joins a list that already includes captain Djené Dakonam and striker Kévin Denkey.
A French pathway without the senior team
Trained at Rennes, Brassier went on to wear the shirts of Brest and then Marseille, before joining Frankfurt this summer. The left-footer has made 117 Ligue 1 appearances. In Germany, he quickly established himself as a starter, according to Sport.fr.
His career with France’s youth teams never led to the senior national team: he now discovers the Togo national team.
Dakonam and Denkey, the key figures
In this list of twenty-six, Brassier could be paired in central defence with captain Djené Dakonam, the defender who plays for Getafe. Nothing guarantees, however, that the two will start side by side, nor that the Frankfurt man will be in the starting line-up.
Up front, Togo are counting on Kévin Denkey, scorer of 17 goals in 31 matches this season with Cincinnati. For his first call-up, Brassier could feature as early as Saturday 14 November in Tizi Ouzou, before Algeria’s visit to Lomé on 17 November.
Group I in their sights
According to Pan Africa Football, the Fennecs lead Group I with 4 points, ahead of Togo and Zambia, who have 3 points each.
The two matches against Algeria, on 14 and 17 November, could therefore affect the pecking order in the group.
