Cameroon: three Indomitable Lionesses in the running for African Player of the Year!

CAF unveiled its annual nominations on 3 November 2026: Marie Ngah Manga, Michaely Bihina and Monique Ngock, members of the side that were crowned African champions with Cameroon in August, are among the ten contenders for the African Player of the Year title.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled on 3 November 2026 the list of ten nominees for the African Player of the Year title. Cameroon has three representatives on it: the forward Marie Ngah Manga, the goalkeeper Michaely Bihina and the midfielder Monique Ngock, according to 237actu.com.

The nomination comes less than three months after Cameroon’s first continental triumph, secured on 16 August at the Moulay El Hassan stadium in Rabat, in the final of the 2026 Women’s AFCON against Malawi (3-0). The three Cameroonians were also honoured during the tournament: Monique Ngock had received the best player trophy, and all three feature in the team of the tournament.

Marie Ngah Manga and Michaely Bihina in two categories

Marie Ngah Manga scored two goals in the final. She finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals, level with Temwa Chawinga and Barbra Banda. Her name now features among the candidates for the African Player of the Year title, alongside that of Monique Ngock.

Michaely Bihina is also nominated for African Goalkeeper of the Year, a category separate from African Player of the Year. She is therefore in the running in two categories, after being named best goalkeeper of the 2026 Women’s AFCON.

The date: Lagos, 7 December

The CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for 7 December 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria, according to 237actu.com and GhanaWeb. It is there that the titles will be awarded, including African Player of the Year and African Goalkeeper of the Year.

The other nominees for African Player of the Year include Marine Dafeur (Algeria), Portia Boakye (Ghana), Hanane Aït El Haj (Morocco), Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa) and Barbra Banda (Zambia).

Cameroon also nominated in the team category

Cameroon also feature among the nominees for Women’s National Team of the Year. They are up against Ghana, quarter-finalists at the Women’s AFCON, as well as Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria, Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast and Mali.
