African Legends: Adebayor, Diouf and Appiah take on the Super Eagles in Lagos!

On 8 November 2026, the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan hosts a Legends Football Game where Emmanuel Adebayor’s African Legends face former Super Eagles, celebrating three decades of Nigerian football.

Lagos is gearing up for an unusual fixture. On Sunday 8 November 2026, the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan will host the Legends Football Game, according to the New National Star. The African Legends are led by Emmanuel Adebayor, former African Ballon d’Or winner, El-Hadji Diouf, Didier Zokora and former captain Stephen Appiah. They will face former Super Eagles from the 1994 and 1996 squads.

The event celebrates three decades of excellence in Nigerian football and is also meant to be a continental celebration: the organisers have invited stars from several African countries, from Cameroon to Zimbabwe via Senegal and Ghana. It is organised by Toptier Sports Management, in partnership with Afreximbank and CANEX.

A line-up of continental greats

The cast goes beyond the leading quartet. The expected contingent includes John Paintsil and Anthony Baffoe (Ghana), Khalilou Fadiga (Senegal) and Aristide Bancé (Burkina Faso), according to the New National Star. Cameroon is represented by the two Songs, Rigobert and Alexandre, while Peter Ndlovu and Benjani Mwaruwari (Zimbabwe) as well as Brian Baloyi (South Africa) are also among the guests.

On the other side, the Onikan crowd will see faces that have marked Super Eagles history, those of the 1994 and 1996 generations. Adebayor, presented by the New National Star as a former African Ballon d’Or winner, wears Togo’s colours within the African Legends on this Lagos pitch.

Three decades and a memory

The stated aim goes well beyond the spectacle itself. The event is intended to celebrate three decades of excellence in Nigerian football, according to the New National Star, and to shine a light once more on the generations that built Nigeria’s reputation on the African stage.

The organisers also want to pay tribute to the great names Africa has produced. Chichi Nwoko, founder and CEO of Toptier Sports Management, says the event will honour football heroes whose achievements have inspired generations across Africa, according to the same source.

Kick-off at 1.30pm

The schedule for the day is now known: the doors of the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan will open at 1.30pm, according to the New National Star.

The match will be broadcast live on NTA, AIT and Silverbird from 5pm to 7pm.
