The Tunisian federation on Tuesday officially confirmed the appointment of Mouine Chaâbani, 45, as Tunisia’s national team head coach on a four-year contract. He succeeds Hervé Renard, after the country’s failure at the 2026 World Cup.
Mouine Chaâbani becomes Tunisia’s new head coach. The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) officially confirmed his appointment on Tuesday, according to the official statement cited by 24直播网. The 45-year-old coach has signed for four years, the same source says.
He succeeds Hervé Renard, the former interim head coach whose brief was limited to the 2026 World Cup, according to 24直播网. Tunisia come out of a difficult World Cup, which ended with three defeats in the group stage.
A four-year contract
According to the federation, the contract runs for four years. The official statement, cited by 24直播网, gives no further details on the terms of the deal.
The appointment comes after a 2026 World Cup that ended in failure for the national team, and at a time when the federation must now find stability in the role.
Espérance, Egypt and Berkane
Mouine Chaâbani made a name for himself in the Espérance de Tunis dugout, where he won the CAF Champions League in 2018 and 2019, according to 24直播网. He then coached in Egypt and Morocco, with success at RS Berkane.
The Moroccan club said in July that its management had been contacted by the Tunisian federation, and that it had accepted his departure despite a contract running until 30 June 2027. Berkane praised his “high professionalism” and his contribution to “writing an important chapter in the history” of the club, according to the same source.
A first mission: relaunching Tunisia
Chaâbani’s first mission will be to revive the national team after the failure at the 2026 World Cup. Tunisia’s campaign was a rough ride: Sabri Lamouchi, the former head coach, was sacked after the first matchday, marked by a 1-5 defeat to Sweden.
Tunisia then finished the group stage with three defeats, before the arrival of this new head coach.
