Injured in the knee with FC Nantes, defender Saïdou Sow has withdrawn from Guinea’s two meetings with Eritrea on 12 and 16 November. Head coach Paulo Duarte has called up Ousmane Condé, the Karviná striker, for his first senior call-up.
The Syli National will have to do without one of their defenders for their double header against Eritrea. The Guinean Football Federation has confirmed Saïdou Sow’s withdrawal for matchdays 3 and 4 of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, reports guinee7.com. The Guinean international defender is suffering from a knee injury.
To cover the absence, Paulo Duarte’s technical staff have turned to Ousmane Condé, the Karviná striker, who will earn his first call-up to the Syli National senior team.
Taken off after 16 minutes at Nantes
The defender picked up the injury in the match between FC Nantes and Clermont Foot. On Friday 30 October, he left the pitch as early as the 16th minute, replaced by Lucas Perrin. The game ended level at 1-1, a result that left a bitter taste at the club, according to OneFootball and Morning Foot.
The timing is all the more frustrating given that Saïdou Sow had just been retained in Grégory Poirier’s back three, the FC Nantes coach lining up 3-5-2, after his performance against Saint-Étienne, according to the same sources.
The exact nature of the knee injury and the player’s expected spell on the sidelines are not specified at this stage.
Ousmane Condé called up
The Guinea head coach has turned to Ousmane Condé, the Karviná striker, according to guinee7.com. It is his first call-up to the Syli National senior team.
The head coach thus adds a striker to his squad, while the Syli National must do without one of their defenders. The player’s profile is therefore markedly different from Sow’s.
Nantes 15th in Ligue 2
Sow’s injury comes as FC Nantes sit 15th in Ligue 2 with 9 points, according to Homme Du Match.
On 12 and 16 November, the Syli National will face Eritrea twice: first Guinea – Eritrea, then Eritrea – Guinea. Both matches count towards the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
