The Algeria women’s national team, led by head coach Farid Benstiti, has been nominated for the national team of the year trophy at the CAF Awards 2026. Defender Marine Dafeur and goalkeeper Chloé N’Gazi are also in the running individually.
The Greens have earned their place on the list. Algeria’s women’s national team is among the ten countries nominated for the national team of the year trophy at the CAF Awards 2026, with the ceremony scheduled for 7 December in Lagos, according to Echorouk Online. It is a collective distinction, awarded to a national team rather than to an individual player.
Two players from the squad accompany this collective nomination. Defender Marine Dafeur is in the running for the African Player of the Year title, while goalkeeper Chloé N’Gazi is competing for the Goalkeeper of the Year trophy. This information is reported by Echorouk Online and Le Jour d’Algérie.
A historic bronze and a World Cup ticket
The nomination is built on a recent run. At the 2026 AFCON, the Algerian women won a bronze medal unprecedented for the national team, as well as the Fair Play award, according to Echorouk Online.
Above all, that third-place finish allowed Algeria to secure their very first qualification for the final phase of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, due to be held in 2027 in Brazil.
Head coach Farid Benstiti leads this group, which combines the collective distinction with the two individual nominations.
Dafeur and N’Gazi, two individual nominations
Marine Dafeur, a defender, is competing for the African Player of the Year title. Chloé N’Gazi, a goalkeeper, is nominated in the Goalkeeper of the Year category. Both players feature in the Algeria women’s national team.
These two nominations reward players individually, in two separate categories, on top of the national team’s nomination.
The date: 7 December in Lagos
These nominations were made official on 3 November 2026. The winners will be revealed on 7 December 2026, at the CAF Awards ceremony in Lagos. Until then, no ranking has been established between the ten nominated nations or between the contenders for the individual titles.
The ten nations in the running are Algeria, South Africa, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Morocco and Nigeria.
For Algeria, the next milestone is the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, in Brazil, for which the national team is now qualified.
