Rayon Sports: Junior Herman Kameni tops the scoring charts before Al Hilal clash

Cameroonian striker Junior Herman Kameni scored a brace for Rayon Sports against Marines FC (2-1) to go top of the Rwandan league scoring charts, ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with Al Hilal.

On Sunday, the 24-year-old Cameroonian striker scored a brace in Rayon Sports’ victory over Marines FC (2-1) at Umuganda Stadium, according to The New Times. He opened the scoring in the 14th minute before doubling the lead in the 71st, and was named Man of the Match.

With those two goals, Kameni takes his tally to 5 and goes top of the Rwandan league scoring charts, according to The New Times. Rayon Sports face Sudan’s Al Hilal on Tuesday 3 November in the BK Pro League.

A brace to start the week

Kameni delivered, opening the scoring inside the first quarter of an hour and then doubling the lead after the break. The brace lifts him to the top of the scoring charts.

Since arriving at the club, Kameni has quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous players in the league, The New Times points out.

Al Hilal, a major test

On Tuesday 3 November, Rayon Sports face Sudan’s Al Hilal in the BK Pro League. Kameni told The New Times: “It’s a big match, but we have to win.” He also stressed the difficulty: “We took three important points and now we have to stay resilient against Al Hilal, who are one of the big teams.”

The schedule leaves little respite, with another round of matches in midweek. For Kameni, it is important “to stay consistent in the league, to take each match as it comes and to stay focused”.

The fans’ passion as a boost

Ahead of the clash, the striker was keen to salute the supporters. “I want to thank our fans for the support they give us. I ask them to come back and support us, because they motivate us and give us confidence on the pitch,” he told The New Times.

Kameni and his teammates’ next assignment is therefore Tuesday against Al Hilal, before the international break during which Rwanda’s national team (Amavubi) return to action.
