Ghana: Otto Addo demands more than $750,000 from the GFA before FIFA

Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has taken his case to FIFA against the Ghana Football Association (GFA), according to Africa Top Sports. He is claiming more than $750,000 in compensation, arguing he was unfairly dismissed.

The break between Otto Addo and the GFA will now be settled before FIFA. According to Africa Top Sports, the former head coach has lodged a complaint contesting the terms of his departure, which came in March 2026. He claims he was unfairly and unilaterally dismissed.

The dispute is financial and falls under FIFA, which has not set a date for a decision. It comes as a Hearts of Oak official condemns the governance of Ghanaian football.

Ten months of contract left hanging

In support of his complaint, Otto Addo says he was dismissed in March 2026 with ten months of his contract still to run. It is on this basis that he puts his claim at more than $750,000, according to Africa Top Sports.

At this stage, that figure has not been the subject of any ruling: it is the sum requested by Otto Addo.

Odotei’s damning assessment

Meanwhile, Vincent Sowah Odotei, Lead Administrator of Hearts of Oak’s interim management committee, gives a damning assessment of the administration of Ghanaian football. “The level of deterioration is very high. It’s decades of poor governance,” he said, according to MyJoyOnline via Footafrica.net.

He points to the inability to attract competent people into administration and the lack of material resources. “We haven’t been able to attract good people into administration. We don’t have the facilities, we don’t have tactical and physical infrastructure,” he added. These remarks are not presented as linked to the Addo case.

Vincent Sowah Odotei calls for a return to the basics. “We have to do the basic things right. The basics that will make us competitive: regulation, order, proper organisation, proper scheduling,” he said.

FIFA expected to rule on the case

FIFA must examine the former head coach’s complaint and determine whether the terms of his dismissal entitle him to compensation. No timetable has been announced, and no decision has been reached to date.

The two matters are not formally linked: one concerns a claim for compensation before the world governing body, the other concerns remarks by a Hearts of Oak official.
