Wandile Duba scored all three goals in Kaizer Chiefs’ 3-0 win over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup round of 16. The 22-year-old striker becomes the first Amakhosi player to score a hat-trick in the competition.
Wandile Duba delivered a hat-trick and a piece of Kaizer Chiefs history. The 22-year-old striker, a club academy product, scored all three goals in the Amakhosi’s 3-0 win over TS Galaxy, iDiski Times reports. It was a night that writes the Mkhondo-born forward’s name into the club’s record books.
Because this hat-trick is no ordinary feat: Duba becomes the first Chiefs player to score a hat-trick in the Carling Knockout Cup. He is also the club’s first player to score three times in a match in almost six years.
A mark in the club’s record books
Duba is the 24th Kaizer Chiefs player to score three goals in a match since 1996/97, and the 19th of the PSL era, according to iDiski Times.
The last Chiefs player to score three times before him was Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana, the former striker who scored a hat-trick of penalties in a 3-1 win over Stellenbosch almost six years ago. The club record remains held by the late Patrick “Ace” Ntsoelengoe, with 14 hat-tricks in all competitions, iDiski Times notes.
Top scorer at 22
With his three goals against TS Galaxy, the club-trained striker takes his tally to 6 goals in 7 appearances this season, in all competitions. That makes him the Chiefs’ top scorer, according to iDiski Times.
Siwelele lying in wait
