A winner of the Toto Cup with Hapoel Tel Aviv against Maccabi (3-2), Ghanaian forward Douglas Owusu has earned a third trophy in five months, after the league and the Serbian Cup won with Red Star Belgrade.
Douglas Owusu keeps piling up the trophies. On Thursday, the Ghanaian international forward featured in Hapoel Tel Aviv’s victory in the Toto Cup final against city rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv (3-2), according to Israeli outlet ONE.
The former Red Star Belgrade man played 80 minutes of the final before being replaced by Amit Lemkin. It is a third title in five months for the player, who now lines up alongside his teammate Yanick Lalindel at Hapoel Tel Aviv.
A final against the city rivals
Hapoel Tel Aviv’s success took shape in a city derby against Maccabi in the Toto Cup. The Ghanaian press, notably GhanaSoccerNet, describes it as a “dramatic 3-2 victory over city rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv”.
According to ONE, this final allows Owusu to continue a run of titles begun a few months earlier with Red Star Belgrade.
GhanaSoccerNet sums up the significance of the event: “Douglas Owusu continued his impressive run of titles after helping Hapoel Tel Aviv lift the Israeli Toto Cup thanks to a dramatic 3-2 victory over city rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv.”
Three trophies in five months
This Israeli triumph comes after the double achieved with Red Star Belgrade, where the Ghanaian won the league and the Serbian Cup. Three titles in five months, then, for a player who has changed club and league in the meantime.
“This victory gives Owusu his third title in just 5 months, underlining his exceptional start to life in European football,” writes GhanaSoccerNet, as relayed by ONE.
On a personal level, the forward has 3 goals and 1 assist in 12 appearances across all competitions this season with Hapoel Tel Aviv, according to ONE.
On to the Israeli league
After this Toto Cup, Hapoel Tel Aviv return to the Israeli league for their next match.
