Club Africain, Espérance, CS Sfaxien: three Tunisian clubs in the group stage!

Club Africain and Espérance de Tunis have qualified for the CAF Champions League, and Club Sportif Sfaxien will play in the Confederation Cup. According to La Presse de Tunisie, it is the tenth time that three Tunisian clubs have reached the group stage.

For the tenth time, the country has placed three of its clubs in the group stage of African interclub competitions, reports La Presse de Tunisie in its edition of 30 October 2026. Club Africain and Espérance de Tunis have qualified for the CAF Champions League, while Club Sportif Sfaxien will play in the Confederation Cup.

The Tunisian daily pairs the announcement with a broader assessment of the state of the national club game. After a period it describes as difficult, this trio of sides is presented as a sign of a return to grace: a reading by the newspaper, not an official CAF figure.

Two clubs in the Champions League, one in the Confederation Cup

Club Africain and Espérance de Tunis have booked their ticket for the group stage of the CAF Champions League, La Presse de Tunisie states, without detailing the results of their qualifying run. The newspaper gives no indication of the opponents already known or of the pots for the forthcoming draw.

Club Sportif Sfaxien complete the trio in the CAF Confederation Cup, according to the same source. That third ticket brings the total to three clubs in the group stage, a situation the newspaper presents as the tenth of its kind. It does not specify which editions the previous ones date back to.

A return to grace that needs qualifying

The daily recalls that Tunisian football is emerging from a difficult period, marked by the national team’s rout at the World Cup and by the costly hiring of a coach. It is against that backdrop that it frames the performance of the three clubs.

La Presse de Tunisie believes Tunisian clubs are now opponents to be avoided in the draw, because of their fighting spirit. “Not to have them as potential opponents, because they dig in, are determined and battle for the result,” writes Kamel Ghattas, a journalist at La Presse de Tunisie.

The newspaper also judges that this year’s signings are of “very acceptable” quality and have shaken up sides with a respectable record. The Tunisian league has thus recovered much of its prestige, it says: assessments that are the newspaper’s own analysis.

A draw with no date announced

The three clubs now await the draw for the group stages of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. La Presse de Tunisie does not specify the date of the ceremony.
