Edo Queens have lodged a fresh complaint with CAF seeking to annul the extra time played in Cairo on 29 October, which qualified Ampem Darkoa Ladies and their player Afishata Mohammed for the 2026 Women’s Champions League.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ qualification remains contested, according to Afroballers and Ghana Soccer Net. The extra-time period played in Cairo on 29 October, which sealed the Ghanaian club’s ticket, is at the heart of this new move.
On the pitch, Ampem Darkoa Ladies qualified 3-2 on aggregate, thanks to a decisive goal from Afishata Mohammed in the 92nd minute of extra time. Edo Queens refuse to accept that sporting outcome: their complaint has been filed, but CAF has not yet ruled on this new appeal.
Edo Queens’ grounds for complaint
The Nigerian club cites, according to Afroballers, concerns over the stadium, the match arrangements and player eligibility. Edo Queens also claim that the change of venue was never confirmed by WAFU Zone B. These allegations, made by the club, have not yet been adjudicated by CAF.
The case is part of a legal battle that has been open since the Zone B final. On 5 September in Ouagadougou, the two teams drew 2-2; Edo Queens were initially crowned regional champions after winning a penalty shootout 4-1. CAF’s organising committee then ruled that shootout had no sporting effect and ordered the match to resume from the start of extra time.
From Ouagadougou to Cairo
CAF’s appeal commission upheld that decision on 16 October. The sequel was played out in Egypt, where Ampem Darkoa made the difference in the closing moments of extra time, through Afishata Mohammed, in the 92nd minute.
That goal sent the Ghanaians to the 2026 Women’s Champions League. “The team defeated Nigeria’s Edo Queens 3-2 in the continuation of the WAFU Zone B qualifying final in Egypt on Thursday, to book their place in the tournament,” Ghana Soccer Net summed up.
Edo Queens’ new complaint targets precisely that extra time on 29 October. Ampem Darkoa, for their part, expressed their gratitude to the GFA and to Ghanaians after securing their ticket, according to Ghana Soccer Net.
What awaits the two clubs
The case is now in CAF’s hands, with a decision on this new appeal awaited. Neither the governing body nor the Ghana Football Association has publicly reacted to date. Prosper Harrison, GFA general secretary, and Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour II, president of Ampem Darkoa Ladies, have not taken a position in the available material.
