According to Newslegend NG, Samson Adamu is set to be appointed permanent secretary general of CAF, after serving as interim since 29 March 2026. Official confirmation from the continental body is still awaited.
The information is circulating, official confirmation is still awaited. On Thursday, Nigerian outlet Newslegend NG announced the appointment of Samson Adamu, CAF’s interim secretary general, to the role on a permanent basis. A decision which, if confirmed, would end an interim period opened after the departure of Véron Mosengo-Omba, the body’s former secretary general, who left to head the Congolese football federation (FECOFA).
Foot-africa.com notes for its part that CAF’s website still listed Samson Adamu as interim secretary general at the time some sources were published. The outlet considered that the information remained to be officially confirmed by the body. Nothing therefore currently indicates the exact outline of the mandate.
An interim spell begun on 29 March 2026
On 29 March 2026, Samson Adamu had been designated to hold the interim at the head of CAF’s administration, after the departure of Véron Mosengo-Omba. The latter held the position for more than five years before leaving to head FECOFA.
Before that designation, Adamu was CAF’s director of tournaments and events. He therefore already held a position linked to the organisation of continental competitions within the institution.
A central role in CAF’s administration
The secretary general position is no minor one. According to Foot-africa.com, it plays a central role in implementing the decisions of the bodies and in CAF’s administrative coordination.
A permanent confirmation would therefore mean entrusting this role to an official already in place since 29 March 2026. Mosengo-Omba’s departure, after more than five years at CAF, thus leaves Adamu in a position he has so far held only on an interim basis.
CAF awaited on communication
The official word remains. At the time of writing, no CAF communication had confirmed the appointment, and the Nigerian press was the only outlet reporting it. Official communication from the body on the subject is still awaited.
The sources consulted specify neither the length of any eventual mandate nor the terms of the appointment.
