Mamady Doumbouya, leader of Union FC de Conakry and director general of ARPT, was elected president of the Guinean Football Federation on Tuesday 27 October 2026, ahead of Antonio Souaré (21 votes to 18).
Guinean football has a new boss. Mamady Doumbouya was elected president of the Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT) on Tuesday 27 October 2026, at the end of an elective congress that brought together four candidates, GhanaSoccernet reports. The Union FC de Conakry leader, who is also director general of ARPT, finishes three votes ahead of Antonio Souaré: 21 to 18, according to Africa Soccer.
The vote produced a tight verdict. Ibrahima Kalil Kaba, the Cap 2030 list candidate, finishes third with 13 votes, while fellow candidate Mohamed Chérif Haidara received no votes at all, according to GhanaSoccernet. The figures were relayed by Africa Soccer and GhanaSoccernet, which cite Guinean outlet Guineematin.com.
A three-vote margin
The election came down to the wire. With 21 votes to 18 for beaten candidate Antonio Souaré, Mamady Doumbouya wins narrowly at the end of an elective congress with four candidates. The third, Ibrahima Kalil Kaba, received 13 votes.
Mohamed Chérif Haidara received no votes at all, according to the count published by GhanaSoccernet. Doumbouya, the RF224 list candidate, thus emerges victorious from a vote decided by three votes.
The new president inherits a four-year mandate at the head of Guinean football, GhanaSoccernet specifies. A term running until 2030 for the man who also runs Union FC de Conakry, a club from the capital.
A programme built on four pillars
The Renouveau Foot 224 collective, which backed Mamady Doumbouya’s candidacy, had presented a 2026-2030 programme in Boké structured around four pillars, according to Le Révélateur 224: governance and clubs, regional development and infrastructure, youth training and competitions, and national team performance and health.
The campaign commitments included developing infrastructure, raising the standard of the Guinean championship and supporting the Syli national team. Bakary Diaby sums up the approach: “We made several commitments: developing infrastructure, raising the standard of the Guinean championship and supporting the Syli national team, among others.”
The administration to be put in place
After the vote, the next step concerns putting Mamady Doumbouya’s administration in place and setting the priorities for his four-year mandate.
The election of 27 October 2026 took place at the FEGUIFOOT elective congress, where four candidates were in the running, according to Africa Soccer. The sources consulted specify neither the composition of his team nor the timetable for these appointments.
