Powered by a brace from right winger Abdelrahman Magdy, Pyramids FC thrashed Merreikh Bentiu 4-0 in Cairo to book their place in the CAF Champions League group stage, according to Ahraminfo.
Saturday 24 October turned into a short evening for Merreikh Bentiu. In Cairo, Pyramids FC claimed a 4-0 win over the South Sudan champions in the second leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round. The victory seals the Egyptian club’s qualification for the group stage of the continental competition.
The tie never really offered any suspense: as early as the 22nd minute, Pyramids right winger Abdelrahman Magdy opened the scoring with a powerful left-footed strike. Seven minutes later he struck again to claim a personal brace and make it 2-0.
Fathi and Benbouali pile on the pressure
Mostafa Fathi, the Egyptian club’s winger, added a third goal in first-half stoppage time, in the 45th+2 minute, making it 3-0, according to Ahraminfo. The lead was already wide before the break.
In the second half, Algerian forward Ahmed Nader Benbouali scored the fourth goal of the match. Ahraminfo does not specify the exact minute of that goal. One detail, however, is highlighted by the outlet: all four of Pyramids’ goals were scored with the left foot, giving the evening a peculiar statistical flavour.
Youssef Obama, Pyramids’ attacking midfielder, also caught the eye early in the second half by hitting the crossbar. The score stayed that way.
The 1-0 first leg
The emphatic win follows a tighter first leg, in which Pyramids won 1-0 thanks to a goal from midfielder Mahmoud Saber. Over the two meetings, the 5-0 aggregate score reflects clear Egyptian dominance.
Above all, the victory allows the club to play in the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition for the fourth consecutive time, according to Ahraminfo.
The group-stage draw to come
What happens next now depends on the draw for the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League group stage, which is set to be organised by the Confederation of African Football. The names of Pyramids’ future opponents are therefore not yet known.
