OGC Nice: Yehvann Diouf blunders, then saves the Aiglons at Brest!

At fault for the opening goal, Senegalese goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf saved a penalty in the 90th+10th minute and handed OGC Nice their first away win of the season, 2-1 at Brest.

At the Stade Francis-Le Blé, Senegalese goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf experienced the worst, then the best. In the 15th minute, he let Ludovic Ajorque open the scoring for Stade Brestois into an empty net, according to Eurosport. A blunder that could have sunk the Aiglons for good.

It didn’t. Behind, Nice turned the match around on the opening night of Ligue 1 matchday 8: Elye Wahi equalised in the 61st minute, then Sofiane Diop scored in the 83rd. In stoppage time, Diouf made amends.

The 90th+10th-minute penalty

In the 90th+10th minute, VAR flagged a foul and Kenny Lala, the Brest defender, stepped up to face Diouf. The goalkeeper brilliantly kept out his attempt, reports wiwsport. Here he is the hero of an evening he himself had started badly.

“Hero yes and no, it’s collective as I told the team. The penalty, I save it also because they all came to see me when I made the mistake,” the goalkeeper told OneFootball. He was referring to his teammates, who came to him after his error.

Stéphane Cassard changed things

Nice coach Olivier Pantaloni revealed he had considered taking his goalkeeper off at half-time. “Honestly, I thought about taking Yehvann Diouf off at the break after a long discussion with my staff. It was the goalkeeping coach, Stéphane Cassard, who had the final word, and he did well,” the coach told OneFootball.

Stéphane Cassard, the goalkeeping coach, therefore convinced his coach to keep Diouf on the pitch, a choice that proved a winner. This redemption comes in a season where Nice’s mistakes are costing them dear: the one in the 15th minute is the fourth made by the club leading directly to an opposition goal in Ligue 1, according to Flashscore.

A first away success

It is OGC Nice’s very first away win of the season in the league, according to Footeo News. In the table, the Aiglons climb provisionally to 8th place, while Brest drop to 11th, according to Eurosport.

Diouf played the entire match against his Senegalese compatriot Pathé Mboup, on the Brest side, reports Seneweb. For the equaliser, Mohamed Amoura, Nice’s Algerian forward, provided the assist from a corner for Elye Wahi, according to La Gazette du Fennec.

Nice will continue their schedule on Ligue 1 matchday 9 next weekend. The Senegal national team gathering is scheduled for early November 2026.
