Arsenal: Saka hit by quadriceps injury, six to eight weeks out feared

Withdrawn after just 10 minutes in Munich, Bukayo Saka is suffering from a quadriceps problem and Arsenal fear six to eight weeks without their winger. He is already ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Everton.

The scene will worry the Emirates Stadium. On the pitch at Bayern Munich, Bukayo Saka left the field after just 10 minutes of the 2-2 Champions League draw, having picked up a quadriceps injury. Arsenal’s right winger, an England international of Nigerian origin, was unable to continue.

A diagnosis still pending

According to BBC Sport and Actu Foot, the London club fear he will be unavailable for between six and eight weeks. That figure remains a fear to be confirmed: further tests and an MRI scan are still ongoing to determine the severity of the injury, Foot Africa reports.

Caution remains the order of the day. The presence of swelling and fluid around the affected muscle area is delaying a definitive medical diagnosis. As long as the swelling persists, the exact nature of the injury and the true length of his absence remain up in the air.

In the meantime, he is already ruled out of Saturday’s home game against Everton in the eighth round of Premier League fixtures. Mikel Arteta, the Gunners’ manager, expressed his concern at a press conference on Friday 23 October: “The difficulties his winger has in walking normally and moving without pain are worrying signals.”

Eze seized his chance

On the pitch at Bayern, it was Eberechi Eze, Arsenal’s attacking midfielder, who replaced Saka. The substitute made his mark quickly: he scored the Gunners’ first goal in Munich, before his side were pegged back to a 2-2 draw.

A useful cameo, with Arsenal now having to cope without their right winger. The club sits 2nd in the Premier League with 18 points from 7 matches, according to Sport Minute.

Key dates in sight

If the feared six to eight weeks are confirmed, Saka could miss several major European fixtures with Arsenal as well as the upcoming Nations League matches. Caution is still needed: those absences are for now only a possibility, with the tests still to clarify the severity of the injury.

The next fixture is set: Everton visit the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 24 October 2026 at 14:00 GMT. Arteta will have to name a starting XI without his winger, while awaiting the test results.
