Manchester City: Antoine Semenyo out for eight weeks, cruciate ligaments spared!

Injured in the knee during the win against Ipswich (3-2), Antoine Semenyo will be out for around eight weeks, Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has announced. An MRI ruled out any rupture of the cruciate ligaments.

Manchester City and the Ghana coaching staff will have to do without Antoine Semenyo until December 2026. The 26-year-old Black Stars winger injured his knee during his club’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town in the Premier League. The player will be sidelined for around eight weeks, confirmed the Skyblues manager, Enzo Maresca.

The injury was feared to be more serious: the MRI undergone by the player ruled out any rupture of the cruciate ligaments, to the relief of the Mancunian medical staff. Semenyo already has 2 goals in 7 Premier League appearances for Manchester City this season.

Maresca: “we are relieved”

The manager did not hide his relief when detailing the nature of the injury. According to African Manager and Seneweb, Enzo Maresca explained: “At first, we expected a more serious injury. After the tests, we are relieved. It will be eight weeks, so when he comes back around December, he will be like a new signing in terms of energy.”

With this comparison, the manager stresses that the winger’s return, expected around December, will bring a boost of energy equivalent to that of a winter signing. The right winger, who can also play up front, will therefore be missing for Manchester City for almost two months.

Already ruled out this weekend against Aston Villa

Semenyo’s absence will be felt as early as this weekend. He will notably miss the Premier League matchday 8 clash against Aston Villa, this Saturday at 12:30 at Villa Park.

Beyond the Skyblues, this extended absence also forces millions of Fantasy Premier League managers to rethink their attacking plans.

Ghana must rethink its plans

Beyond Manchester City, it is the Black Stars staff who must rethink their plans. Semenyo’s extended absence forces them to reconsider their attacking options.

No precise return date has been set, either for the club or the national team. Maresca only mentions a return around December, with no further certainties.
