AS Monaco: Lamine Camara on target as Filipe Luís calls him “special”

Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara scored AS Monaco’s second goal in their 3-0 win over Freiburg at the Stade Louis II in the Conference League, earning praise from his coach Filipe Luís.

AS Monaco returned to winning ways a week after a 1-0 defeat to Lorient in Ligue 1. The Principality club dominated SC Freiburg 3-0 at the Stade Louis II on matchday 2 of the Conference League league phase, according to Get French Football News.

Lamine Camara, the Senegalese midfielder, scored Monaco’s second goal by converting a shot from forward Ansu Fati that had been parried by Mio Backhaus. A complete evening for the Senegalese, praised by his coach Filipe Luís in his post-match press conference.

Brunner opens, Fati closes

It was Paris Brunner, the AS Monaco forward, who broke the deadlock just before half-time after leaving his marker for dead. The second goal came from Camara, finishing off an Ansu Fati strike parried by Backhaus.

Fati sealed the win in stoppage time with a curling effort. Freiburg, for their part, won eleven corners without ever finding a way through, according to Get French Football News.

“He is special”

Filipe Luís made no secret of his admiration for the Senegalese midfielder. “What a performance. He keeps surprising me. He is special. What he did tonight, very few players are capable of,” the AS Monaco coach told the press, as reported by Get French Football News.

On the other side, Julian Schuster, the SC Freiburg coach, acknowledged Monaco’s technical superiority and ruthlessness in front of goal. An assessment that matches the scoreline: three goals scored, none conceded.

Two wins out of two in Europe

The win comes in a tricky context. AS Monaco were coming off a 1-0 defeat to Lorient in Ligue 1 the previous weekend and needed to respond in European competition. The response came from their Senegalese midfielder.

According to UEFA, Lamine Camara has two wins from two European matches this season with the Principality club. The first, a 2-1 victory over CSKA Sofia on the opening matchday of the Conference League league phase, was already a Monaco success.

Matchday 9 of Ligue 1 looms this weekend for AS Monaco.
