OM: Himad Abdelli comes back from the cold and knocks on Genesio’s door!

Left out of the squad in the spring, Himad Abdelli has carved out a new place for himself at Olympique de Marseille under Bruno Genesio, the OM head coach. The 26-year-old Algeria international midfielder is pushing for a start against Sturm Graz in the Europa League.

Last spring, Himad Abdelli was excluded from the Marseille squad. He has since turned his situation around and won back the trust of Bruno Genesio, according to L’Équipe via AfricaFoot. The 26-year-old Algeria international midfielder is now establishing himself as an increasingly influential figure in the Marseille eleven.

This season, in all competitions with OM, the former Angers and Le Havre player has made nine appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Figures that reflect, according to AfricaFoot, a rediscovered athletic and technical impact in midfield. The Marseille club are going through a pivotal spell, with simultaneous commitments in Ligue 1 and on the continental stage.

A return to favour under Genesio

Bruno Genesio’s renewed trust and the system put in place by the coach have allowed Abdelli to turn his situation around, according to L’Équipe via AfricaFoot. Pushed to one side in the spring, the 26-year-old has re-established himself in the Marseille eleven, with nine matches, two goals and one assist in all competitions this season.

That progress is built on a rediscovered athletic and technical profile, AfricaFoot points out. Having come through Angers and Le Havre before joining OM, the midfielder now occupies an increasingly important place in the Marseille engine room.

A contract until 2030 and a valuation of €5m

Himad Abdelli is under contract with Olympique de Marseille until 30 June 2030, AfricaFoot recalls. On the transfer market, his value is put at 5 million euros by Transfermarkt, according to the same source.

Those two details round off the picture of a player whose influence has been growing since the spring, at a time when the club must fight on several fronts.

Sturm Graz in their sights

Marseille are involved in the league phase of the Europa League, where the club are playing matchday 3. For the European trip to Sturm Graz in Austria, Himad Abdelli is in contention for a starting place, according to AfricaFoot. A start would mark another step in his return to the forefront, though it is not guaranteed.

After that continental fixture, OM will host Le Havre AC at the Stade Vélodrome on matchday 9 of Ligue 1.
