Mohamed Abdelmonem, the Egyptian international centre-back at OGC Nice, left the pitch in the 81st minute of the 1-2 defeat at Lyon. The Riviera club has scheduled imaging scans for this Monday, 19 October, to assess the severity of his injury.
OGC Nice lost their match at the Groupama Stadium, and their Egyptian centre-back Mohamed Abdelmonem had to leave the pitch. According to Ahraminfo, he was hurt on matchday 7 of Ligue 1 against Olympique Lyonnais and was replaced in the 81st minute. The Riviera club went down 1-2.
The club has scheduled medical imaging scans for this Monday, 19 October, Footafrica.net reports, to determine precisely the nature and severity of the injury. The fitness scare has caused serious concern within the Nice medical staff ahead of the upcoming matches.
A night to forget for Nice
Yet everything had started well for the Nice side. Ivory Coast striker Evann Guessand opened the scoring in the 18th minute, according to Ahraminfo. But Lyon turned the match around between the 32nd and 36th minutes: Pavel Šulc equalised in the 32nd, then Tanner Tessmann put his side ahead in the 36th.
Abdelmonem, for his part, had already endured a difficult restart. According to Ahraminfo, he was troubled by Duranville from the moment play resumed after the break and picked up a yellow card before going off injured.
A challenge with Nakamura to blame
Ahraminfo traces the start of the injury to the 70th minute, following a heavy challenge with Nakamura, who was sent off on the play. Yet Abdelmonem only left the pitch in the 81st minute, eleven minutes later.
The medical file remains open. Neither the nature of the injury nor any likely spell on the sidelines has been communicated at this stage. The results of the imaging scans, due this Monday, 19 October, should establish the exact severity of the injury, before the Nice medical staff announce how long he will be out.
A defence to rebuild
The defeat leaves OGC Nice stuck in 13th place in Ligue 1 with 8 points, according to Ahraminfo. Lyon, for their part, have temporarily taken top spot in the league with 14 points.
Until the medical findings are known, the club cannot say how long their Egyptian centre-back will be absent. The results of this Monday, 19 October, and the announcement from the Nice medical staff will reveal whether the injury is serious.
