Raja Casablanca were held to a 2-2 draw at Ikenne by El Kanemi Warriors in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the Confederation Cup. Mohammad Abu Zrayq scored for Raja, who take two away goals into the return leg.
Raja Casablanca battled to a 2-2 draw at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Nigeria, against El Kanemi Warriors on Sunday 18 October 2026, in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the Confederation Cup. A goal down as early as the 6th minute, the Moroccan club hit back through Mohammad Abu Zrayq in the 24th minute, according to Afrik-Foot.
Raja had even taken the lead through Nigerian striker Mathias Oyewusi Kehinde in the 60th minute, before El Kanemi Warriors equalised in the 82nd. As Afrik-Foot points out, Paco Jémez’s men nevertheless take two away goals into the return leg.
A game that swung twice
Raja were chasing the score from the 6th minute, when El Kanemi Warriors broke the deadlock. The response was swift: in the 24th minute, Abu Zrayq brought the two sides level.
In the 60th minute, Kehinde put Raja ahead at 2-1. It took until the 82nd minute for El Kanemi Warriors to equalise late in the game, according to Afrik-Foot’s account.
The 2-2 leaves the tie wide open, with two away goals in Casablanca’s pocket.
Three absentees and a depleted squad
Raja travelled to Nigeria without Adel Beltaib, who has an adductor problem, and Ayoub El Amloud, who has a thigh injury. Ghanaian midfielder Michael Agbekpornu is suffering from a hamstring injury and is out for the entire two-legged tie.
Raja were exempt from the first preliminary round of the competition, so they entered the fray at this second round.
Continental pedigree and a return leg in Casablanca
The Casablanca club know the competition well, however: they have won the CAF Confederation Cup twice, in 2018 and 2021.
The return leg is scheduled for 23 October 2026 in Casablanca, five days after the first leg. Raja will go into it with two away goals to their name, though their defence conceded twice in Nigeria.
