FC San Pedro claimed a 2-1 win over FC Nouadhibou on Saturday 17 October 2026 at the Stade Laurent Pokou in the first leg of the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League second preliminary round, according to Dailysports. A victory set up right from the start, then snatched in the closing minutes.
Striker Aby Kassi Théodore opened the scoring as early as the 4th minute for the Petruciens. Nouadhibou striker Jowool levelled things up in the 40th minute, and the break came with the score at 1-1. Karamoko Mouhamadou, the San Pedro striker, finally delivered for his side in the 88th minute.
A two-part story
The opening exchanges went the way of the Ivorians, who found the breakthrough very early. FC Nouadhibou responded before the break, though, Jowool pulling his side level in the 40th minute.
It took until the 88th minute for Karamoko Mouhamadou to tilt the game back in San Pedro’s favour. His late goal gives the Petruciens a narrow one-goal lead before the trip to Mauritania.
The away goals rule in play
FC Nouadhibou still have a card to play before the return leg: according to Dailysports, the Mauritanian club benefit from the away goals rule. Jowool’s goal at the Stade Laurent Pokou therefore carries weight in the tie, though no definitive conclusion can be drawn at this stage.
For FC San Pedro, the stakes go beyond this single tie: the Ivorian club are targeting a historic qualification for the group stage of the African Champions League, again according to Dailysports. The club are therefore not yet qualified.
Next stop Mauritania
The return leg between FC Nouadhibou and FC San Pedro will be played in Mauritania over the weekend of 24-25 October 2026. The Ivorians will have to defend their narrow one-goal lead against an opponent who benefit from the away goals rule.
Should they qualify, the draw for the Champions League group stage has already been set for 28 October in Cairo by CAF, according to CAF Online.
