AS Monaco: Ansu Fati wants to “reduce the risk of injury as much as possible”

Ansu Fati, the AS Monaco forward, said he was relieved after his return to competitive action and his goal in the Conference League. He wants to reduce the risk of muscle relapse, reports La Diagonale.

Ansu Fati spoke at a press conference on Saturday 17 October 2026 about his rehabilitation and his goals with AS Monaco, reports La Diagonale. “I feel very good and I’m very happy to be back with the team. I really can’t wait to play again after such a long time without being able to,” he said.

The player is coming back after several months away from the pitch because of two consecutive injuries, including a muscle relapse in his calf. He played a quarter of an hour against Toulouse FC in Ligue 1 before the international break, then celebrated his first start of the season in the Conference League against CSKA Sofia by scoring a goal.

The hardest part: staying off the pitch

“The hardest thing was not being able to be on the pitch doing what I love. I couldn’t help the team and enjoy the game,” he told La Diagonale. It was a long and gruelling spell for a forward who was unable to take part in his team’s play.

Fati stressed his daily work to reduce the risk of muscle relapses as much as possible. He cited as examples other players who had suffered long runs of injuries before finding a lasting balance, a way of showing that this kind of path can be overcome.

A goal on his first start

His first start of the season in the Conference League, against CSKA Sofia, ended with a goal. AS Monaco are counting on him returning to full fitness to add to their attacking rotation, both in the league and on the European stage.

The former great prospect, born in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, is looking to relaunch his career on the Rock of Monaco after a path disrupted by physical setbacks.

An ambition looking to the future

“I would give everything I have never to be injured again, but that’s part of football and, to be honest, I’m doing my best to reduce the risk of injury as much as possible,” he said, as quoted by La Diagonale.

AS Monaco’s next Ligue 1 fixture is a trip to Lorient this Sunday, 18 October 2026.
