Stade Laval: Oumar Konaté cleared, he could start against Clermont!

Loaned by AS Monaco, Ivorian striker Oumar Konaté (19) is finally cleared and could start, for his first match, with Stade Laval against Clermont, Friday 16 October 2026, in Ligue 2.

Stade Laval has made official the arrival on loan of the Ivorian striker, from AS Monaco. The player had joined Laval at the end of the international break, but was waiting for his work visa to be issued in order to be cleared. He is now administratively in order and can play his first match as early as this Friday evening, according to Sport-ivoire.ci.

The fixture pits the Mayenne club against Clermont at the Stade Francis-Le Basser, in Ligue 2. Coach David Vignes does not rule out fielding his new signing directly as a starter.

A search for attacking efficiency

The Laval coach explained the reasons for this arrival by pointing to his team’s lack of efficiency in the final 35 metres. “Compared with everything we do, we lack efficiency in the final 35 metres. For that, Oumar is exactly the profile we were missing. And he complements our other attackers very well. He will fit perfectly into what I expect,” he told Sport-ivoire.ci.

According to David Vignes, the player’s profile therefore meets the need identified by the staff. A background that could allow him to establish himself quickly, even if the choice of the line-up remains open.

Le Havre and Toulouse beaten to it

Stade Laval were not alone in the race. Le Havre and Toulouse had also positioned themselves before the Mayenne club secured the loan, Sport-ivoire.ci reports. The player favoured the Laval project, with the guarantee of obtaining significant playing time.

That choice commands the respect of his new coach. “That says a lot about his qualities. But our league position did not put him off. With his entourage, he thought about his development, that demonstrates intelligence and humility,” emphasised David Vignes, again according to the same source.

Clermont, first test in a competitive match

Trained at Sol FC d’Abobo, in Ivory Coast, before joining Monaco, Oumar Konaté already has a few appearances in Ligue 1 and on the European stage with the Principality club.

Friday 16 October 2026’s match at the Stade Francis-Le Basser will be an opportunity to see the Ivorian recruit in his new colours. It remains to be seen whether he will be thrown in from the start or come on during the match.
