Morocco: Adam Masina hangs up his boots and moves to the bench!

Former Moroccan international defender Adam Masina has officially announced his retirement at the age of 32. According to Corriere di Bologna, he is set to join the coaching staff of Progresso Calcio, in Italian Serie D.

Adam Masina will no longer defend. The former Moroccan international has officially called time on his playing career at the age of 32, reports Afrik-Foot. The native of Khouribga, who has 28 caps for the Atlas Lions, is bringing his career as a player to an end.

According to Corriere di Bologna, relayed by Afrik-Foot, he is expected to immediately join the coaching staff of Progresso Calcio, a Serie D club in the fourth tier of Italian football, to begin his coaching career there. The information remains unconfirmed, with his official appointment still to come.

A new chapter in Serie D

So it is in Italy that the former defender would set up camp, no longer on the pitch but on the bench. A first coaching experience in a league he knows well from having played in it.

The precise role he will be given within the staff is not yet known at this stage. The 1.92 m giant would in any case bring his top-level experience to a fourth-division club, having played in Serie A, the Premier League and international competitions.

A career disrupted by injuries

Adam Masina’s trajectory was severely slowed by a serious cruciate ligament injury at the end of August 2022. Over the course of his professional career, he played for Bologna, Giacomense, Watford in England and Udinese.

His contract with Torino FC was terminated by mutual agreement last February, following recurring hip problems.

On the international stage, he played a decisive role in the heart of Morocco’s defence alongside Nayef Aguerd during the AFCON 2025 finals, benefiting from the withdrawals of Romain Saïss and the reduced role of El Yamiq.

A unanimous tribute

On social media, Adam Masina expressed his emotion, paying tribute to the Moroccan people and his teammates for the moments experienced with the national team.

The Moroccan federation and supporters paid a unanimous tribute to his dedication in the national shirt.

He was not selected by Mohamed Ouahbi, the national team coach, for the 2026 World Cup nor for the international windows in autumn 2026.
