Club Bruges have come back in for Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, but KRC Genk are blocking any departure and favour a contract extension for the 22-year-old Guinean midfielder, according to AfricaFoot.
The name of Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, KRC Genk’s midfielder, is back in the Belgian transfer market. According to AfricaFoot’s news feed of 15 October 2026, relayed by Joueurs Guinéens, Club Bruges have come back in for this Guinean international. It is a fresh move several months after the Bruges club’s first attempt, having already been in the running the previous January.
But the Limburg club have chosen to bolt the door. According to the same source, Genk are blocking any immediate departure of their player to their Belgian rival and are giving absolute priority to a contract extension before considering any sale at all.
Bruges keep pushing, Genk refuse
Bruges’ scouts are particularly keen on the profile and the work rate of the 22-year-old Guinean midfielder, AfricaFoot report. Their interest in Ibrahima Sory Bangoura is therefore nothing new: Club Bruges had already tried to sign him the previous January.
Once again, KRC Genk have chosen to bide their time. The Jupiler Pro League club refuse to let one of their assets leave for a Belgian rival before securing his future in their colours.
An extension is the priority
Active contract talks are under way between the Genk hierarchy, the player and his representatives, according to AfricaFoot. KRC Genk want to maximise his market value in Europe before contemplating any kind of sale.
That extension is still to be made official, however: no signature has been announced at this stage, and the information should be treated with caution while the talks continue.
Bruges lying in wait
Club Bruges, for their part, remain on alert. According to AfricaFoot, the club stand ready to go back on the attack if the contract negotiations between Genk and their Guinean midfielder fall through.
A Guinea national team international, Ibrahima Sory Bangoura continues his season with KRC Genk in the Jupiler Pro League. Still to come are the expected confirmation of his extension and the Limburg club’s next league match.
