Injured in the left thigh with Algeria, the Marseille forward has returned to the club to continue his treatment. There is no official timescale, but Marseille have not yet ruled him out for 11 October.
In Marseille, every piece of good news counts. Released by Algeria after his injury against Zambia, Amine Gouiri is back at the club and currently following an indoor treatment programme. According to Foot Marseille, he has not yet been ruled out of the trip to Troyes on Sunday, 11 October. The club are waiting to see how the injury develops, with fresh updates expected next week.
A muscle injury, no timescale
On Friday, 25 September, during Algeria’s 3-1 win over Zambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Gouiri had to come off as early as the 18th minute, limping. Head coach Brahim Hemdani initially spoke of discomfort in the quadriceps of his left thigh.
The next day, the Algerian Football Federation confirmed a muscle injury to the left thigh and announced that he had been released. No official timescale has been given. According to La Provence, he could be out for just over a week, though other outlets are more cautious.
Three games in eight days
For Bruno Genesio, a lot is riding on it. Gouiri, 26, has been one of the few Marseille players in form this season, with four goals and one assist in five Ligue 1 games. Marseille, in the middle of a dismal run, face three crucial fixtures after the break: Troyes on 11 October, Olympiacos in the Europa League on the 15th, then Angers on the 18th.
Marseille’s treatment room is already busy, with Derek Cornelius suffering a serious hip injury with Canada and Himad Abdelli leaving on crutches after Algeria’s game in Burundi on Tuesday. Getting Gouiri back in time would be a real boost. An answer is expected next week.
