Following several incidents during matchdays 26 and 27, the LSFP has raised the stakes and announced disciplinary sanctions against anyone caught bringing witchcraft and gris-gris rituals into Senegalese professional football.
It’s an official statement that has sent shockwaves through Senegalese football. The Ligue Sénégalaise de Football Professionnel (LSFP) has formally condemned the use of occult practices — commonly known as « gris-gris » — witnessed on pitches during matchdays 26 and 27 of both the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. Videos of the incidents spread rapidly on social media, forcing the governing body to respond with a firm public stance. The LSFP announced it has referred the cases to its disciplinary commission, which will review official match commissioner reports before handing down rulings against the clubs and individuals involved.
The league’s position is unequivocal: such behaviour directly damages the image and credibility of Senegalese football, particularly at a time when the country is gearing up for the global spotlight of the 2026 World Cup. This is not the first time the LSFP has taken on this issue — a major crackdown was already launched in 2023 — but the resurgence of incidents shows the fight is far from over. Penalties can include point deductions or even a walkover defeat for clubs found guilty.
