Aubameyang blunt: “OM doesn’t need another striker!” Despite rumors about Jonathan David

  • EN

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Olympique de Marseille’s star forward, has brushed aside rumors linking the club with another striker such as Jonathan David.

At 36, the Gabonese veteran—who has scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions this season—remains confident in his abilities. Speaking with fans on DAZN, he said, “I can still play for a few more years. My body and my stats show that I’m still able to keep going,” reminding everyone that he’s under contract with OM until 2027. His recent performances, including a decisive brace against Lyon (3–2), confirm his resurgence and pivotal role in OM’s push for Champions League qualification.

As Marseille aims for a top-four finish, transfer rumors have heated up around Jonathan David, the Canadian striker currently at Juventus. According to multiple Italian outlets such as Tuttosport and Blasting News, OM are ready to outmaneuver Lyon and spend €35–40 million to bring him in—taking advantage of their good relationship with Juve following Timothy Weah’s transfer. The move reportedly depends on securing European qualification, with coach Habib Beye considering David a potential complement to Amine Gouiri up front.

Marseille manager Habib Beye continues to back Aubameyang and sees no issue in pairing two elite strikers. “We’re close to seeing Aubameyang and Amine start together. When you have two forwards of that quality, that’s not a problem,” he said, praising Aubameyang’s experience and ability to maintain high intensity for 95 minutes. Despite an inconsistent season for some, Aubameyang’s return to OM in the summer of 2025 is paying off, with crucial goals in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

Meanwhile, Jonathan David—struggling at Juventus with only seven goals this season—is also attracting interest from Lyon on a loan deal. Still, Marseille appear to be leading the race for a permanent transfer. Both clubs see David as a great fit for Ligue 1, while Juventus eye PSG’s Gonçalo Ramos as a potential replacement, setting off a possible domino effect. For now, Aubameyang, the hero against Lyon and Auxerre, has made his stance clear: Marseille’s attack is already strong enough to aim for the top—rumors about David or not. The summer transfer window promises to be a fiery one on the Canebière.
