Eintracht Frankfurt defender Lilian Brassier, 27, has chosen to represent Togo, according to CLXZZB. Head coach Patrice Neveu has named him on the preliminary list for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
According to outlet CLXZZB, Lilian Brassier, defender at Eintracht Frankfurt, has decided to represent Togo on the international stage. Born in Argenteuil, in the Paris region, the 27-year-old has been named by head coach Patrice Neveu on the preliminary list for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
The decision comes ahead of the double-header against Algeria on 14 and 17 November 2026. Togo, third in qualifying Group I, have not played at an AFCON since 2017. Being on the preliminary list does not, however, guarantee a call-up for those matches.
An unusual career path
A France U18 international, Brassier went on to wear the blue shirt at youth level: one cap for the U19s and five for the U20s. He built his career in Ligue 1 with Rennes, Brest and Marseille, making 117 appearances in the French top flight, with 6 goals and 3 assists.
Last summer he joined the Bundesliga and Eintracht Frankfurt. Under Adi Hütter he has established himself as a starter, with 7 starts in 7 matches this season.
A centre-back pairing to build
With Togo, Brassier could form a central defensive partnership with Dakonam Djene, the 34-year-old defender who has played for Getafe. That pairing remains a possibility: his place on the preliminary list will have to be confirmed by a call-up for the matches against Algeria.
A major boost
For Togo, the arrival of a defender playing in the Bundesliga is an asset in the race to qualify for the 2027 AFCON. The schedule has Algeria v Togo on 14 November 2026, then Togo v Algeria on 17 November 2026.
At this stage, the case does not specify whether Patrice Neveu plans to call on Brassier immediately for those two matches. The squad list will provide the first answer.
