Senegal U23: Serigne Saliou Dia names 23 Lionceaux, including 15 expatriates

Senegal U23 head coach Serigne Saliou Dia unveiled a 23-man squad on Sunday, including 15 expatriates, for the second round of the U23 AFCON qualifiers against South Sudan.

Senegal U23 now know their squad for the second round of the U23 AFCON qualifiers. On Sunday, Serigne Saliou Dia made public a list of 23 players selected, according to Africa Top Sports. The coach opted for a squad largely drawn from abroad, with 15 expatriates called up, according to Sunusport.

Senegal had been exempted from the first round. They therefore enter the competition at this stage, against South Sudan, according to Africa Top Sports.

A squad heavily stocked with expatriates

Of the 23 names selected, 15 are players plying their trade abroad. The rest of the list, around ten players, play domestically, Sunusport specifies.

Africa Top Sports names goalkeeper Mohamed Sissokho among those called up. Behind him, defenders Abdoul Aziz Ndiaye, Serigne Fallou Diouf and Souleymane Cissé have been summoned, while the midfield relies notably on Raphaël Ndong and Ousseynou Fall Seck.

The attacking department features Mame Alassane Niang, Yaya Diémé and Aliou Diémé. These nine names, cited by Africa Top Sports, give an insight into the backbone of the squad for this round.

Juba first, Dakar to finish

The schedule for the two-legged tie is set. The first leg will be played on 11 November 2026 in Juba, according to Africa Top Sports. Six days later, on 17 November, the return leg is scheduled for Dakar.

The trip to Juba will therefore be the Lionceaux’s first official match in this round, after their exemption from the first.
